Suggestion: Pak homepages should have a screenshot on the homepage

I've set up a Google News alert for "simutrans" - which will also notify me about things like blogs... So I'm going through and seeing what all is out there that mentions us, and hopefully providing them with new and/or correct info where I find outdated info...

One thing I noticed that I think might help us: I think Pak subdomains should feature a screenshot of the pak on the homepage. I think that will help generate interest, especially as, depending on the item, I'm directing some traffic there -- for example, I've found sites that link to 128.simutrans.com -- so I'm trying to say "Hey, there's other options too" :-)

thing is, people get bored easily, Simutrans running should be three clicks away

What would really help is if the stable/tested versions were compiled into some kind of all-in-one package, possibly even with a simple installer (some people can't even unzip things...)

Then it's just download, install, play. If people want to get more complex than that they can, but with this approach we extend the userbase a bit.

But yes, a big banner at the top of all Simutrans pak sites which points out the other options would indeed be very good for promoting them.

Proposal: I suggest the creation of a project group to handle this... it would help to have multiple people so that if a release comes out and some are busy, others can help package...

1. get.simutrans.com

2. Private board on the forum - with a post to request volunteers from the Devotees to help and gain access to said board

3. Publish login info in the private board

4. Coordinate and discuss how to set up the page, etc

5. Package releases. I recommend always a .zip option for Windows, but for size, we should also offer .rar or others that are smaller. For Linux, native format as well. Offer complete packages - certainly a Windows + Pak64, Linux + Pak64; for stable, and latest, and let's discuss tested... But maybe also at least for stable, some other paks -- all playable paks would be nice. Sure, it's a little overlap in download and space, but the idea is to make it *easy*, and I can handle the bandwidth -------- but more discussions in the group board...

If there are no objections to this general idea, I'll work on setting it up tonight or tomorrow...

Hey Now that I have read this...Didn't I have a simular idea with that kids simutrans page I made ponder

Granted it wasn't as well thought out though redface
