Nucear fusion power chain
Alright, new project, a nuclear fusion power chain for pak64/128. To include:

Water desalination plant - produces water and salt, located on coastline
Electrolysis & deuterium seperation plant - produces hydrogen, oxygen and deuterium from water.
Fusion reactor - produces power and helium from deuterium (D-D type reactor).

Also:
Gas retailer - accepts oxygen & helium for retail.
Hydrogen - this will go to some sort of hydrogen fuel station, or something like that.

There will, of course, be a selection of vehicles for transporting all the relavent materials around, some sort of generic pressurised gas transport vessel, tankers for water, trucks/wagons for salt etc. The salt I don't know what to do with, some other retailer probably.

The basic structure of the buildings will be done in Blender (which I have decided it is time I learnt how to use), then they'll be touched up for each pak seperately so that each looks good...

Here's what the fusion reactor looks like so far.

Finally  Pak 128 gets the nuclear chain!!!
I was starting to doubt we would get it this year.
Any chance we can get the fission chain?

Yeah, I probably will remake the fission chain, I never was happy with the nuclear plant for the pak64 version. I've also got a few other powerplants planned...

In my opinion torus should be more massive. You can also (if you use blender) do bevel and then E key and region something, it is nice effect Smiley

Re: Nucear fusion power chain
I don't want the entire structure to be more than 3x3, as factories larger than that tend to be a little unwieldy... A certain amount of realism has to be sacrificed Wink Bevel? E-key? Could you explain a bit more?

Improved torus & beginnings of a control building, that's it for tonight I think... I dunno what to do about the control building, I'd like to make it glass-fronted and shiny-looking, but I don't know how Sad

Check this.

Create cylinder (for exemple), go into edit mode, use "bevel" (W key for menu) then press E key and choose "individual faces". This is nice magnet effect.

In blend file I started from left and final effect is on right.

Did you use "NURBS Donut"? My effect works only in mesh objects but you can create small cylinder (with magnets) and use tracks, curves or something. I don't want you to change your bulding but I wanted to give some ideas.

Oh that is cool, I made the donut by spinning an oval, I will have to play with the bevel effect Smiley

Try NURBS curves and other things (used in curves in my maglev tracks). You need have small amount and duplicate it (SHIFT+D) many times. Then insert and modify curve (curves can be closed as circle). Last thing (save before it) - select first object and later curve SHIFT+P (make parent) and curve deformation. You need experiment with it for some time.

I'll try to make my vision of fusion reactor, tokomak style (similar to yours) just for sending my ideas:)

NURBS Circle was filled so I changed alpha to 0 for transparency.

With my small tutorial you can create linear fusion reacotr and then later bend it easily. Please create nice supports, pipes, equipment...

Increase the mirror value (to be found where the color and transparency settings are), then it will shine just as much as you like (sorry, I don't have Blender on this computer, you'll have to look around a bit).
(so much for unhelpful help)

The plant is really cool! (only we would need pipelines for water... transporting them by truck or train seems quite unrealistic... wallbash)

Re: Nucear fusion power chain
If you want to use mirror you must know think about background color. Put some "trees" (green objects) and some bluish to the top so glass (I prefer dark-blue-grey color with 50-70% mirror, without transparency). The best way would be to use some photos but I don't know haw to do it.

Maybe combining the desalination plant & electrolysis, so the plant just produces the gases and salt then? I agree that transporting large amounts of water by vehicle is unrealistic... I was thinking maybe an offshore desalination/gas extraction plant with higher capacity also, like an oil rig.

I haven't had a chance to play with Blender for the last day or so, will check out the mirror settings as well Smiley

Well, but for every coal train shipped to the coal powerplant, you would only need to ship a "handful" of of hydrogen to the fusion plant. Every fair with flying balloons will consume much more of it than a huge fusion plant. Same consequently holds for water input.

Well fusion of 1kg hydrogen hast same energie output as burning 10 000 t coal eek
