US Freight Wagons - Graphical Issues.
Hi, I was about to change one thing or two about the railcargo set, when this issue came to my mind.

There are some problems that make the decision not that straightforward.

Given the multiplicity of wagon generations, if I were to make 5 versions of each would mean ultracrowded depots.

My oppinion and point of view on the subject is that, given that the locomotives are player coloured, and that there are cabooses available, wagons shouldn't be player coloured (In the US set, at least), but, do you really find any difference between 6 hopper and 3 hopper generations? It's kinda crazy to have a different hopper every 20 years, and game-wise, it's nice not to have a perfect gradation of capacities and weights. For example, I wouldn't like to see a diesel locomotive for every n*500kW of power and another variation for every n*40km/h. That doesn't make real sense.

Counting early wagons, (XIX century, that is), I'm about to reduce drastically the playercolourcrowdiness of your depots, and add some colour and joy. Poll, perhaps there's a better idea around.

Oh, and of course, a player colour version of each wagon will be provided, just in case.

Regards

Raven

You could also have stripes of player color on the waggons and then just make four variations and that one plain player color waggon

where i live there are many diffrent waggons that are owned by all different componies and the only thing that tells them apart is a small lettered name on the side

oh and i have a bunch of paks and my depot window is very crowded without timeline on but that kinda adds a realism sense to it, having to shop around and find the best engine and waggons

Looking at your signature right now.......... I think it would be cool to have some player-colored wagons to go along with those--- but I always mean to change my player color, because as much as I like that shade of blue, I hate the light color displayed there.. the darker colors are prettier IMNSHO Wink

OTOOH, in general, I tend to prefer non-playercolored stuff (well, except I hate pastels and specifically RGB/CMY colored stuff (that is, the standard (in html terms) #F00, #0F0, #00F, #FF0, #F0F, #0FF)...

I vote for:
1. Whatever you end up having time for (and can manage to finish without overwhelming yourself-- and this is not criticism- I'm bad about overextending, so I know how it goes!)

2. Whatever looks cool (e.g. most, if not all, of what you do... Wink )

It does seem like possible overkill to have 10,000 things in the depot- like you say, every 40/kmh etc. levels... OTOOH, anything you make is likely to be used, if it's up to me. And I don't mind crowded depots.

(OTOOOH, I want to strap you down and make you paint a certain specific set of roads, of which you've actually done some of already anyway, so I'm especially "scared" to see you get any more overworked! hehehe)

Duck and cover has never and will never work.
Re: US Freight Wagons - Graphical Issues.
Is this using the list I made before? question

Do I know too much? Possibly

People have a short attention span, now, conditioned I suppose by 60 minute TV shows and 2 hour movies in which everything comes out okay.  The real world is not like that.  It is messy, uncertain, and sometimes bloody and ugly.  Always has been, and probably always will be.

If you've played pak96, you'll see all the wagons from your list there.

As far as cargo wagons go, here's the pak file with just palyer colours. The main reason for this topic was to know your oppinion about wagonsn, which, looking at the results of the poll. Seems pretty clear.

If you want to upgrade your HD wagons...

Oh, what the hell, give rail and roads a try, since scale is changing anyway, these are prone to extintion
