RELEASES
I'll try to post here latest 'build' of the set, with upgrades and the such, so you can all help the development.

This set is made over standard pak64, so some images might still be there. This'll change ASAP.

Feel free to post as much comments as you like, but note that this is still under construction.

Anyway, I'm waiting until I can finish the infrastructure and RoadVehicles until the first release is made.

Re: RELEASES
Hmmm, what are we lacking to make a release?, you'll ask. Well, I need pak96HD to fullfill the next requirements:

A useable 1920-2020  timeline of:
· Buses
· Ships
· Trains and Multiple units
· Trams
· Planes

Some citizens
Cars

Buildings for Airports (Packer's are ok) and Ports
A factory set

What do I need to correct before releasing:
-catenary
-some cursors

Oh! I nearly forgot:

Tunnels and bridges
Some signals for roads

Re: RELEASES
Hi people,

There's a release, and it's still hot!

It's download, extract & play, since it includes Pak90.00.1 executable for windows.

Please report the bugs, I've worked hard to get this out in the streets, and the betatesting hasn't been torough.

Anyways, there's a bit of an august afternoon in each of those buildings and vehicles. Have fun.

Buildings for Airports (Packer's are ok)

What, you don't like mine or there arent enough?

Do I know too much? Possibly

People have a short attention span, now, conditioned I suppose by 60 minute TV shows and 2 hour movies in which everything comes out okay.  The real world is not like that.  It is messy, uncertain, and sometimes bloody and ugly.  Always has been, and probably always will be.

Re: RELEASES
No, meaning, I used and tiled them, didn't code them tough.

But since I kind of moved towards rendering, I made all player stations that way, looking for some consistency.

For those of you who prefer the Hand Drawn versions of stuff, well, they'll be released, but it's a much more tedious job, the copypasting, colour adjusting and everything.

Anyway, if tehre are going to be HandDrawn airports in the future, those are yours.

Re: RELEASES
Really great!!! Unfortunately, I cannot find any word to describe how great it is, but very good indeed. Your drawings and rendered images are of course good as usual. Also there are many things which I like, including:
* vehicle length appropriate
* locomotives are powerful and can haul long trains
* vehicle prices & construction costs appropriate (though maintenance costs are too low IMHO)
* heaps of stations and extension buildings
* trolleybus
* small villages as a tourist attractions

Thank you for your great work.

p.s.
* There are couple of airplanes as of 1934, but no airstop
* noise on road at the border of cityroad and my company's road (attachment). This is caused by exe?

They try, darling, but they don't have the range!
Re: RELEASES
I won't even attempt at expressing my awe and respect here, as I said in another thread I am not good at that. But I am truly impressed.

I only tried it out for a limited time and did not really play, and I also had the effect in yoshi's screenshot. Why I didn't play is that I find it quite hard to play in such dark, starkly contrasted environment. I mean, the "land" tiles are mostly white, but then if you start building in the city, it suddenly gets dark with all the roads, buildings, catenaries etc. It also requires much more effort for my tired and not-so-well-working-anymore eyes to focus on a vehicle that turns from black to white while truning on a b/w/grayish background. I must also say that the menu icons are not that obvious - a handdrawn engine/truck etc. would be better than representations of roads/tracks...

In general, I would propose you again to reconsider switching to sephia (I mean something like "brownscale"), and using more ambient lighting not to create so much contrast between the "sun-facing" and shaded sides of objects. On the other hand, now I also remembered that I found it hard to find standalone industries and attractions, as they are in turn "white on white". So, if you are going to split the hand-drawn and rendered sets, I am all for the "19th century postcard" sephia look, which would work great with the Chicago-style buildings!

That said, I should come back to praising rather than nitpicking. Trolleybuses are simply awesome!!! They really require overhead wiring! Wohoo! Secondly, the villages are great! They look so natural...

I still can't get over the idea of road-vehicle-based trams... One more reason for that is that when you wire the streets for trolleybuses, then the additional wiring for trams becomes hard to discern and its hard to make sure whether you've wired the appropriate fragments of the streets...

Now, I thought that there is only one "road object" permitted per tile, so in the case of Pak96, its trolleybus wiring, while the tram wiring comes as an overlay for the tram track tile which is itself "overlayed" over the standard road tile... Here's a solution:

A NEW TYPE OF ROAD!

A road that comes with tram tracks, perhaps with a few "speed" variants! Then the wiring could work for both trolleybuses and trams (a bit of a stretch, perhaps...)  Perhaps there could also be a type of road tile that would work as "tram tracks only", which could be used by trams, but not road vehicles... Is that feasible?

Re: RELEASES
I love this. Some improvement but hey it's great. I like how you made a type of bus for each model of bus like there's a trolley verson and a articulated verson and a double decker verson and even a post truck verson!!!!

You had a bug though... you can hook up Superliner wagons to the Acela engines  heh

Re: RELEASES
Well... I've refrained from chiming in--mostly because I'm short on time, but partly because I don't want my words to be taken wrongly...

First, this is a huge undertaking that is going well -- Raven does such cool stuff.... I think if I *had* to pick a favorite artist of all the good ones we have... well... it would be extremely difficult... but overall, I think I'd have to pick Raven. But it would be tough.

OTOH, Raven starts these big projects and they seem to wither after a while-- hey, I can understand that... I never *did* finish my roads, and there are several things along the way that died-- and I didn't make the huge progress that Raven has, either... So please, that's not a complaint.

I am disappointed that the pure hand-drawn has taken a back seat to some of the rendered stuff-- I really really liked the hand-drawn stuff... The rendered monochrome I don't like how it turns out--- but I like the objects themselves... but it makes for an odd mix for a pak. BUT it's still fun to play....

But I find myself wishing I had the rendered things to play with in pak128 and/or pak64...

This is one of those situations, like Simutrans itself, where some of the disappointment is magnified from minor to moderate-- simply because it's so good to begin with. So please hear the positive I'm trying to say, because that's what I really mean.

But please please do keep backups of your work so later on if you (or even others) have time.... maybe the models could be colored for use in another pak-- or even as time passes, there might be enough for a purely rendered pak.

...because I really really like nearly everything here; maybe not so much in the present state somehow; but there's some really cool stuff here.

...I hope this came out right... I'll reread it later when it's cold so I can see if it says what I mean it to... Meanwhile, if I offend, at least let me know since I might not have meant something how I said it...

Re: RELEASES
Hi people,

thanks a lot for the feedback, I'll try to answer every comment/concern.

- I'll Increase construction costs, ATM they're too low and earning money is easy. The problem in pak64 is that with some vehicles you can spend in gasoline half the price of the vehicle. I've got prices related to engine type, power and speed, also multiplied by 1^0.85, let's see what happens if I increase that factor.

- The white graphical bug, dunno where it comes from, but it seems to be slope-related, I never get around to fix it, but it won't be there for .99 version. (My V0.2, that is)

- Some intro dates need to be set back to 1900 for airports, more now that the Hindemburg has been introduced.
I'd like to render some of those old old airplanes too, but I've got no idea on specs (JUst check the Handley page that I mocked up for pak128 Smiley)

- About the ability to couple Superliners with Acela, well, it's the last train introduced in the game, so in case you want it DD, why not? The trainset will be constantly upgraded, as everything.

- Icons, well, at the time I made them I had no stuff to place there, so they're supposed to mean, a road, a track, a tramline, then? Hmm, I had no idea so drew air and water. I'll place some more stuff there, since they're not clear even to me.

- About bus generations, there are good and bad things about each type. In early buses you can hook up a mail trailer to an Intercity Bus, which simplifies a lot the mail transporting at early times. Later on, you'll have your postal service fully established, and the concept of articulated bus becomes more clear as a people transporter.

- Now the biggest concern: Colour, HD, Monochrome, Sepia... This is not straightforward at all, let me talk a while about the pros and cons:

HD: It's fast for buildings and trees, but vehicles require a huge amount of work if you want them to be half-right. HD helped me get the first release, and it makes a good style for early villages and towns. FOr sure it'll be preserved into XIX century.
Monocrome: Nobody seems to be a fan of Monochrome style, but just consider what it's helped me do, a full set (even cities), in 2 months, even less! It works wonders IMO. But renderd is the way to go, a vehicle modelled and renderend in minutes, it's like magic. Finally this set may become 96pakstandard rendered style. Perhaps an american set, but at a different tile size.

Thanks for the support.

@Raven: Okay but I assume there's no Maglev Station because you didn't have time right? But you sure got some nice Maglevs in the depot.

Are you kidding me with making money easy? I am 10 million in dept and I hardly built anything!!! Now I'm 11 million.

And all I built was a very short train line... Atlest it's finally making money yet I still seem to be going into deeper dept.

Re: RELEASES
Oh yes, I also absolutely adore the wide selection of station buildings. And did I mention I love trolleybuses? Cheesy Bigger towns look really great, though they appear as if they were in perpetual polar night... I'd give much to see the "daylight" version Cheesy

Oh, btw - when removing tracks or overhead wiring from tracks, the "bulldozer" often stays on the tile it appeared on and behaves like an object, i.e. can be deleted just like city cars!

I am slowly getting accustomed to it all, but my eyes would still prefer more relaxing color combinations... Is it really necessary to render buildings and vehicles with such strong, one-side light, or would it be able to use stronger ambient lighting?

I thought Raven was in Chicago, Illinois, he's said lot's of stuff recently about it.

He's not the only one, I'm about 60 mile west of Isaac

Maybe because pak HD has all American stuff.

Re: RELEASES
Hi people, thanks for the feedback, those bugs are being ironed out.

For next version I'm going to try something. What if all tourist attractions were monuments? Well, just one on each per map, could work.

Just for the record, I've made:

15 one tile plazas
a large national library
2 huge art deco scrapers , 2x2 tiles
1 modest skyscraper, 2x2 tiles
1 large auditorium, hmmm, 2x2 also
5 university buildings, one of them coloured, here it is.

I've also amde 8*2 industrial buildings, and plan some big factories to be mixed with rusty blocks on top levels of the Ind areas.

I designed new player colours, deeper, and useable Smiley

Dk Blue
Lgt Blue

Deep Red
Orange
Yellow (Still looks odd)
Purple
Pink (Yikes!)
Crimsom

White
Grey
Black

Dark Green
Green

Brown
Turqoise
Kaqui green

Were horses on that release? If not, horses
Coloured train set (cargo and all, with variable loads for bulk)

Finally corrected martin's church also.

Added cabooses.

Of course new grounds for the alpha version.

This will be out as soon as I get a non-intermitent internet conection (10days to 2weeks, I hope), beacuse the monument set alone is 1,15MB.

What do I plan to do until then?
Hmmm, new player HQ's, growing Townhalls.
Some special citycars (have you seen the red one?)
ArtDeco Skyscrapers
Modern Block Houses

And much much more!

@Breeze646, completely spanish, right from Madrid, never been in chicago, nor the US, nor even North America, but I plan to.

Regards

I love what you say, I love what I see! This bit of color is such a welcome addition to the sad world of b/w SimuTrans! I am still wondering whether the building could be lighted from another side (i.e. sun behind us or somewhere to either side), but I am guessing there are important technical reasons to have the sun behind the building.

PS. I would have never guessed Raven is not from Chicago or the US, let alone Spain!

About adding colour to the buildings, what if it was made bit by bit, since it's a long and time consuming process.

now i recognise where that grey colour comes from i can *fully* see why you like monochrome, and also exactly how you can drop these things out so fast :-)

I actually like the look of these things, its like seeing a model railway, or plastic kit thats never been painted.. its very strange but somehow hypnotic.

Hi people

@Claire: That white monochrome is not the standard material if that's what you were thinking  teeth. (But nearly)

@ Isaac: I burn a CD with all the simutrans content every 15 days or after a big release.

I'll update the web soon. I'm just in the mood for some trukin'. 7 generations of trucks (one every 30 years from 1900), so now is a good time to tell me what makes up for a good american truck for the years 1930,1960,1990, and I'm talking about the small ones, no semitrailers.

This is the marksman remodelled, I will delete old file, since is there really any reason to go back? If someone wants those files, just ask. BTW, I've prepared a blend file that by just pressing anim, churns out 5*8 images. This tech improvement allows me to release versions for other paks too. I'll post them in the appropiate topics.

Hey Isaac, want to come back on board of 96?

Also on the subject of flags, don't you think Ontarios Flag (the one on the left of my signature) is a little lame...

@Raven: If you do come to North America, San Diego is right across the boarder my grandparents took the Tram from Downtown San Diego right up to the boarder as it goes that far...

But if you make it farther then San Diego you could visit anywere else in the states like San Francisco, New York City, Florida, Chicago, you name it. But if you make it far enough to reach Canada your welcome to any city!!! Also they still allow you to sit infront of Parliament which is our Capital Building. Infact someone got away with a pillow fight on Parliaments front lawn.

We probably have the lest noticable surcurity here in Ottawa though... There is tons of surcurity in effect but you don't notice it. That's why they still let people walk all over the lawn infront of parliament!!! dance

Well yeah you should visit Ottawa some day and check out our history at Parliament Hill.

@PakHD: I LOVE THIS!!!! I can't help but keep saying I LOVE THIS!!! Black and white gets a bit confusing but I've gotten used to that.

About making an american set? Well, this I see everyday, and pak96 has to be different in a way or two.
Thanks for the feedback people.

Looking at my todo list, I'll try to correct one or two tings and make a release for latest version ASAP. Just don't get too attached to your old games since I'm introducing/changing a lot of things. As a matter of fact, here's one of the new 'monuments'

I think I didn't get to reply to those over this past weekend, but I thought they looked sharp. They're still a bit dark, which gives them a very moody film-noir feel, but I theorize that the color is enough to help with the problems of all-black/white... Regardless, they look *awesome*. Cheesy

Well one tip is don't fly to Toronto International because it's the most expensive airport to land at in the world. If you want to visit Toronto, fly to Ottawa and take the VIA Train down even though it might cost the same as flying into Toronto with the train costs, you get to ride a Canadian Train and you will arrive in the heart of Toronto which you can transfer from the VIA Train to Torontos Subway or Streetcar System. Whichever system takes you to your hotel if you get one.

If you do choose to fly to Toronto by their airport, well you'll arrive about a hour and a half from Downtown which is where all the action is. And that's just driving time. Taking the bus to the Subway takes about 2 hours.

Now to stay on topic, can't wait for this colour release!!!
