Scenario: Japan 1946
Last Edit: January 11, 2007, 02:04:35 PM by Joker
This scenario is based on Joker's map - if you like it, I can add more.

Scenario: Japanese renaissance 1946-66

Prerequisities:
Despite the name, pak 1.2.9 and newest Simutrans base is used. I apologize to the natives.

Task:

General McArhur, welcome. Your task is to rebuild  Japan, destroyed by WWII war. New power is rising! You have 20 years to rebuild the Isles. Do not rely on the old industry - for their success, you need to complete transition on high-tech: you must build Electronics, Car and Goods chain in Japan to succeed. Secondary task is to make of Hiroshima a living and flourishing city.

Additonal bonus: Complete an automotive chain in South Korea, to prevent communist expansion; use only the minimum of Forests necessary for Goods to protect natural ressources for your children.

Limitations:
You can build only in South Korea and Japan. The China, Russia and North Korea are enemies and their industries cannot be used (even if there will appear any new). Many raw materials are located abroad, as it is in reality.

Tips:
You will need to eat first, then you would like to visit your relatives to check if they survived and then ... back to work!

OK, I got so far but needed oil from an oilrig. I can't build a ship-depot, nor can I raise land to get a rail-track within reach of the oilrig. Can't build ships - can't be right...

Please specify pak [a,b,c] and base [-06-1,-2,-3] in case that's the problem...

Meanwhile, I'll try 129a, 88-06-3, fresh install... Nope, still no ship-depots allowed.

Loos like a good one though, Sindor!

I have problems with ship depots too, I think t is a general problem of this version. I was using pak128 1.2.9 "b", and sometimes you need to search for a while to find suitable position of a dock. I can send you a save game if it is needed.
If you want to build a railway to oilrig (it is a sort of trick I use sometimes too Smiley ) try slope tools to flatten the slope and approach as much as possible to oilrig from north (behind oilrig). It should work.

Re: Scenario: Japan 1946
I have searched fairly thoroughly for a site that I'm allowed to build a ship-depot on, but without success. I think that normally it's related to the underwater contours, but I've always found somewhere withing a few tiles of the original attempt, and for this I must have tried a hundred places.

Extending the land is also impossible in the places I've tried - I get the 'Tile is not empty' error message. I'll try from the north but that's the opposite side from the land I'm starting from!

Maybe you altered contours as another player so simutrans has those tiles logged as that player's property?

I'll have a go with 129b just in case...

The map is the problem.. Tried the same thing 128b  and c to no effect..., but when i modified to map water hieghtfield on the map I was able to build up the land around. This more than likely means I will need to do the same with the rest of my created maps., But just to make sure here is japan 407x531b the updated map. let me know if this helps or not.  please

BTW I checked out my other maps and found to be all the same problem. I have all ready uploaded the corrected maps under "MY APOLOGIZES" in the 128 add-ons. Sorry  redface

Thanks, Joker!

That throws it back to you, Sindor - if you can bear to re-build your scenario from scratch. If that makes you produce an 'Oh no' [expletives deleted] type reaction, don't worry. We'll just wait patiently for the next one...

You can always build depots on canals...

Good idea - excellent, thank-you! I never normally use canals, I guess that's why I didn't think of it.

Cancel the re-write, Sindor - I'm off to post-war Japan!

I aam glad to hear it Smiley My own pak128 works well, even if I fail sometimes to place the ship depot (the one I have is placed next to an oilrig - maybe try that position).

It's running nicely - but I changed strategy anyway; industry costs so much to start I'm going passengers/post first...

BTW, later I found somewhere that I was allowed to build a ship depot. So the problem may not exist at all [like it's an underwater-contour thing and all the areas I tried had the wrong contours] or a player-issue like Sindor had altered something and it's registered as belonging to him.

Either way, persevere people. It's worth it!

My next game is going to be the Japan map straight, with Japan-pak. Unless Sindor posts another challenge first...

Finished. Seriously untidy network again, lots of re-building to be done, but finished!

Your wish is my command... First, the map for the coverage; then an example of rushed and untidy networking.

Re: Scenario: Japan 1946
I wonder, can someone make something like this for europe?

Do I know too much? Possibly

People have a short attention span, now, conditioned I suppose by 60 minute TV shows and 2 hour movies in which everything comes out okay.  The real world is not like that.  It is messy, uncertain, and sometimes bloody and ugly.  Always has been, and probably always will be.

Well done, general Dog Breath! All industries served, Hiroshima rebuilt, forests protected. Gold medal for you.

New map is available: Canada: Gold Rush 1896

Ok. Because my idea of  competition was postponed, I will do it in following way: each time first player will finish all tasks will receive a GOLD medal (from nobody else that DHL Exel Supply Chain manager - me  wink ) and will open for you all a new scenario. Second player takes SILVER, third one BRONZE.
