Simutrans 86.07
Many small annoying thing fixed. New graphics added for harbours and station buildings (see the image). Many internal structures cleaned up.

- non-square maps
- presignals now also show the block last requested (three state signals)
- citycars now try to trun if they are stuck in a traffic jam for more than three days. If this was not sucessful, they will report the traffic jam.
- roadsigns and citycars will be deleted first.
- new sorting in station info for next destination (cumulative)
- new priority boarding: first loading for the next stop. This allows running local and express lines between the same stations without blocking the local line by too many people waiting for the direct express.
- more than one cityinfo window which also remembers the setting for each city.
and many things more. Read the history below.

And now, please, all people we sucessfully prayed for bad weather in germany, put in a break please Wink

Known bugs: (hard to fix)
Citycars are visible after loading even in a tunnel until the hop onto the next field
Citycars cannot go around a 180 degree road bend

Release of 86.07

13-Jul-2005 (prissi)
Internal cleaning up of some data structures => more run-time memory, preparation for other machines/64 Bit
Repaired/Changed some code to make it compatible with DevCpp
Changed the list handling code: There was a lot of uneeded memory use (class instead struct) and some overhead. Also more friendly to different compilers.
Changed the mempool code: Reuse the blocks also used for the list handling code (will be alway size of 4, 8, 12, ... bytes up)

CHANGE: removing now first deletes citycars, then roadsigns/signals, otherwise like before
FIX: key help dialog is now a magic one (only open once)
FIX: limit maximum speed even hill down to maximum_speed+20 (higher speed would likely cause a derailment in reality)
FIX: now the absolute year is saved (avoid cheats) With saving and reloading every 500 years or so this should allow unlimited long games.
CHANGE: Non-quadratic maps (my favorite is always 512x256)
CHANGE: Unmagic cityinfo (so you can open more than one) and city info does not forget its settings anymore
CHANGE: try to built a little more straighter road/tracks also for diagonals (not 100% working yet)
ADD: presignals now posess a third stage, i.e. next block free, but nextnext one still not free
FIX: Paranoia check during loading can partly repair broken savegames during loading/saving
CHANGE: vehicle values drops now 50% in 20 xears and changes monthly.
CHANGE: passengers and goods are first loaded for the nearest stations the convoi goes. This allows to built local and station skipping highspeed lines.
ADD: after three month not moving, citycars will turn around. If still stuck, they will report "To heavy traffic\nresults in traffic jam.\n" as a problem
CHANGE: citycars will wait for next free hop in a step() (saveing lots of calculation time)
CHANGE: autosave value gives now interval in month (0=off)
FIX: no more redraw errors with slopes behind buildings
CHANGE: sorting by number of passenger for the next destination (i.e. connecting to xyz)

   64 Graphcis:
ADD: new station building and new harbours from timeshock/converted 128px graphics

Woah! Spiffy! I played pak128 a little earlier; haven't played with pak64 yet, but that looks great!

- non-square maps
Nice. Oh, how nice it is... So of course, the first thing I did was to create a 4096x64 map.

That is COOL!

And PERFECT TIMING to play with highways -- perfect for one huge long highway! :-D And counting the number of tiles, it's like a 512x512 map -- it does seem to run something like that, so that's rocking cool!

Yay! :-D

Sorry about that. I'll try to remember next time...  Wink

You know, I'm especially glad for this -- previously, I would start new games most of the time I started up Simutrans- but starting with 86.06, I find that I'm wanting to play those 'old' games more -  I have about 4 games now with various larger map sizes that I'm spending more time making larger networks....

Not as cool as 4096x64, though Wink

This sounds like it could be a revolutionary shift in the way that works... I can't wait to get a network complex enough to really comprehend what it means to the gameplay :-D

...

You know, it's easier to give praise and thanks for "cool" things, and harder to remember to do so for bugfixes (because we humans tend to think that things should work, so we don't appreciate it when they *do*, I think); but I have to say that there have been so many cool things recently that it is NOT at all hard to remember to thank you for your hard work.

Erm... I notice that with 86.07, if you build a road that has a straight path through city buildings (i.e. houses, etc - not special buildings), it auto-bulldozes...

Have I not noticed this behaviour starting with a previous version, or is this new?

I think I like it-- but it surprised me, and will take some getting used to... :-D

Hi folks in the new forum!

@prissi
great changes! Thank you!

But my clock runs and my calendar sticks at January 1930.

If year is stored in savegame now, could we get a field to set the start in the 'new world' dialog. And could the settings be saved in the config file?

And could the settings be saved in the config file?

The starting year is already set in ./simutrans/config/simuconf.tab

Quote from: simuconf.tab

# Enforce vehicle introduction dates?
# 0 = all vehicles available from start of the game
# 1 = use introduction dates

use_timeline = 1

# Starting year of the game:
# Setting it below 1930 is not recommended!
# You will have problems with missing vehicles, do not complain if you do so!
# Setting it above 2050 will render game bit boring - no new vehicles.
starting_year = 1930

Meh... this has been an issue for a long, long time, and will surely be one for quite some time...

Besides, unless something is added to the config file, you could extract the files to a new folder and copy over the config...

(seems like changes to the config file are relatively rare compared to new versions of Simutrans)

These changes are terrific.

Thanks Prissi.

Could you please, pretty please, convert those harbours/docks to PAK128. the existing little ones are a bit mundane, and the PAK64 ones have been around for a little while now.

Regards

Colin

I believe it would probably be one of the folks doing graphics, rather than Prissi, who would do something like that...

Unlikely to happen for the same:

The lighthouse exists in 128, but: The crane is pixel drawn, like most of the other tiles.

However, I suggest to ask the right Patrick nicely, an he is also quite good a doing some pixel tricks. The 64 source source is http://members.aol.com/elhazard021/simu/hafen.zip.

By the way: 86.07 does not recognize building as buildings. Tonight I will compile a new one without this error.

NO cars! so cool!

Edit: Your post was most certainly not an announcement... I assume it's in regards to 86.07, since I have noticed a great reduction in the number of citycars in this latest version, thus I'm putting it here. If my assumption was incorrect, please consider giving more details in your post...

erm, care to explain that a bit?

Edit: I went ahead and merged your reply into this thread as well, but I'm putting this note here so people understand the reason for your reply -- that the above post was a thread in the Announcements board... :-)

Re: cool!
NO cars! so cool!

If your post was meant honestly to mean that you thought it was cool that there were no cars, then you should look carefully when you start a city, as there is a control there to set the amount of traffic. You can set it to 0 if you like having no cars....

If your message was meant sarcastically, to indicate a problem, then you did not give nearly enough information for it to have any use...

Meanwhile -- I don't recall whether or not I posted yet on the topic of low numbers of cars, so I'll do so here:

It appears to me that there are quite a few less cars in 86.07 -- as with the problems of the buildings that have been mentioned... I think pak128 looks normal - but I haven't yet tried increating city size drastically to make sure yet...

It seems like there must be some simple typo or something in some basic parameter that's causing the traffic and the buildings to be at such a low level... Was something changed in the city-size code? Because it's almost like there's a variable that defines the effects of each 100 citysize, and that figure got changed, so that what used to take 1000 now takes 10000 or 100000...

I grew a pak64 city to proportions that would support the largest skyscrapers, but nearly the entire city was made up of small houses and parking lots... And there was barely any traffic - maybe 4 or 5 cars, in a city that should have been teeming...

Re: Simutrans 86.07
Another strange thing,

I have station with 5.000 happy people, 700 unhappy and 7.000 didn´t find a route (that´s not strange). But I have it for some 5 years (permanently).

Should I somewhere (if so, where?) change refresh of data at stations manually, or is it a bug?

Re: Simutrans 86.07
I just went in a grew a city in pak128....

Huge size, all small houses and nearly no traffic at all...

So it appears to be a global problem - at least for me...

As I grow the city, I watch the city info window this time -- although the size goes up, whatever that second line is stays the same - it's currently ~"104,000 - 183,000" - don't hae exacnt numbers, but it has not moved...

I'm up to city size ~1,500,000 and it's still all small houses and no traffic...

As I said before, this version is broken and does not recognize houses as houses. Thus it will built a new house over an existing one. Please wait for update.

Hello,
I just joined this forum and I like the way it works! I downloaded version 86-07-1 and succeeded in installing the pak128 set. Great work, many attractive options!
However I did not find the extended shipstop facilities which were available in the 64-version. Any plans to introduce them?
I'm playing Simutrans for about one year and I still like the game, thanks to all who contributed.
